Intumescent Coatings

Application and maintenance to specification

Overview

Intumescent coatings are used to help protect structural elements and support required fire resistance performance. The right outcome depends on correct preparation, application to specification, and appropriate quality checks.

We support property teams with application and maintenance works aligned to manufacturer requirements and project documentation, providing clear records for compliance files.

Compliance & standards

Works are planned with reference to Approved Document B, manufacturer specifications, and relevant test/assessment evidence for the chosen system, including BS 476 and EN 13501 where applicable.

What’s included

  • Review of scope, specification and required fire rating (e.g., 30 / 60 minutes as project‑specified)
  • Surface preparation and application to system requirements
  • Application across relevant substrates (as scoped), including:
    • Steel structural members
    • New or previously painted timber and sheet timber
    • Walls and ceilings
  • Quality checks and documentation (where required)
  • Handover records to support compliance documentation

How it works

  1. Confirm scope — understand the system, access and required documentation.
  2. Prepare & apply — complete works safely and to the agreed specification.
  3. QA & handover — provide records and any follow-on recommendations.
